The university conducts criminal background checks on all new hires after an offer of employment has been made and accepted, and prior to the beginning of employment. An offer of employment may be extended to the successful candidate in EHRA faculty and non-faculty searches; however, the offer must be explicitly contingent on receipt of a satisfactory criminal background report by university officials. The chair of the search committee or the hiring authority is required to obtain the candidate's consent to conduct the criminal background check using the approved form from Human Resource Services ("HRS"). The authorization forms are provided at the HRS website (PDF, 864 KB). The complete policy and procedure are provided in the Policy Manual.
All EHRA job postings must contain the following statement: "Any offer of employment to a successful candidate will be conditioned upon the university's receipt of a satisfactory criminal background report."
If you have any questions regarding the criminal background check policy, please contact HRS or the Office of Equity, Diversity and Compliance.
