What targets can do to stop workplace harassment
- Tell offender that the conduct is unwelcome and must stop
- “Miss Manner” approach: When someone says something
that is offensive, reply, “Excuse me?”
- Inform the offender that you do not discuss personal issues at
work
- Place a copy of ASU’s Policy Prohibiting Unlawful Harassment
on their desk
- Send the harasser a letter
- Provide factual account of what happened
- Describe how the incident(s) made you feel
- Explain what you want to happen next
- Deliver the letter in person or mail it
- Keep a copy
- Four Step Model: Interrupting Offensive Statements
- repeat the offensive statement
- share your feelings
- make a clear request for the behavior to change
- depending on relationship – inform offender of consequences
of continuing offensive behavior
- Report offending behavior to your supervisor
- Report offending behavior to the Office of EDC
