BRIDGES is an intensive professional development program for women in higher education who seek to gain or strengthen their academic leadership capabilities. It is designed to help women identify, understand, and move into leadership roles in the academy.

HERS (Higher Education Resource Services) is an educational non-profit organization providing leadership and management development for women in higher education administration. Since 1972 HERS has served the higher education community through the preparation of more than 3,000 women leaders attending HERS Institutes and participating in a variety of HERS Activities. Today HERS Alumnae across the United States, as well as in Canada, South Africa and other nations, are in positions of leadership at all levels--including most senior positions.

Dr. Rebecca Kaenzig, HERS Bryn Mawr 1995 Alumna, is an associate professor of Accounting in the Walker College of Business and has done research on the classroom experience of accounting students.
Carter Hammett McGarry, HERS Bryn Mawr 2008 Alumna, is Appalachian’s first Director of General Education and the President Elect of the Association of Deans and Directors of University Colleges and Undergraduate Studies.
Dr. Alice Brown, HERS International Board Member, is the President Emerita of the Appalachian College Association. HERS International and the Appalachian College Association are both supported, in part, by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The Leadership Institute for Female Employees (LIFE) was created to enhance the leadership skills of females in the North Carolina State Government.
